1 More Small Way Fortune 500s improve SEO
Monday, December 1st, 2008Meta tags are so simple, but many of the Fortune 500s are ignoring them! Maybe it’s too simple. This is easy, SEO 101 that could help improve visibility. While description and keywords aren’t ranking factors, titles certainly are. Lets not forget though that your meta description often shows up in the SERPS, giving users an idea of what the page is about.
A handful of examples:
Citigroup- who this week received a 20 Billion dollar bailout
General Electric – has ‘em; sort of, but they are certainly not optimized
Chevron
JP Morgan Chase – title and keywords, but left out the description
Morgan Stanley – unoptimized title only
UPS – total lack of any tags
Lehman Brothers – who have filed for bankruptcy, have only the title and key phrases in the meta tags
Just doing the absolute basics of SEO, something like metas that everyone should be doing, can increase your visibility somewhat. Why are these companies, many of whom are struggling, not taking an “all of the above” approach to marketing their websites?
