Heart Walk – Team TKG!

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

In recent months, several of our group have been personally affected by heart disease or stroke. The effects of these related conditions can be devastating, and deadly. Our Group has decided we would like to do something to combat the effects of heart disease and stroke in our community. TKG will be participating in the American Heart Association Heart Walk later this month. In preparation for this, we have done several things:

o Plotted out a walking track through our offices
o Registered for the Heart Walk
o Started to find people to sponsor us
o Launched a Fitness Program that will extend well beyond the Heart Walk

To kick it all off I am asking for your participation in or donation to the American Heart Association Heart Walk. Here are the details:

o Saturday, September 19, 2009
o Kent Stark Campus 6000 Frank Ave. NW North Canton, OH 44720
o 8:30am Walk starts at 10am
o Non-competitive walk – 1.75 miles

I also need some help in raising some money to donate. Funds donated go to support research and education in our community. Our beginning goal is $1500 but we are hoping to raise more! Here’s the link to register for the Heart Walk, team TKG: www.heartwalk.kintera.org/starkcountyoh/teamtkg. Once you sign up and create a page you can send the link to family and friends to have them donate for you (they can pay online)! There are also prompts to link your page to your facebook account! If you can’t walk, please consider sponsoring me, or one of the other TKG walkers (Me! Hannah and Kate are already kickin’ my butt raising money!)

So c’mon out and join us! It’ll be good for you, your family and our community. If you’d like to sign up for a Heart Walk, but you are not in the area, the American Heart Association can point you in the right direction.

Kenan Advantage Group: Doing the Right Things

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

I went to a ystark event last night that was hosted by Kenan Advantage Group. They’re a logistics and trucking company that serves the fuel industry (for now).

First of all, what an impressive facility. They purchased the building of an old printing operation and completely gutted and rebuilt it into a very high tech, employee focused operation. As their CEO Dennis Nash pointed out, it’s probably one of their best HR tools, let alone what their clients think.

What really impressed me though was that during Dennis’ comments to the group (he shared a half hour or so worth of thoughts, stories and insights) he focused so much on people. He runs a trucking company that is approximately a billion dollar business; not small! One would think his focus may be on equipment, technology, cash management etc. However, he made the point that being good to people is the key to success. Both internally and externally.

You can see by their growth, their work environment and their impact on the community that he means it.
